Speech & Language Therapy
Speech language therapy can be provided in addition to your child's therapy at school or as a stand-alone service.
Oral Language Back to Top
Oral language is the cornerstone of all academics. Children with strong underlying oral language skills go on to become better readers, writers, students, and communicators.
Expressive Language Skills
This skill allows a person to verbally express himself or herself in a way that makes sense, is grammatically correct, and convey his or her true feelings and intentions. Difficulties may be in vocabulary use, word order, verb tense, or other areas.

Speech- Sound Production Back to Top
Is your child hard to understand? Does he or she appear frustrated while communicating? Therapy for speech-sound production is provided to help your child speak as clearly as possible. Forgoing typical “drill-like” approaches, your child will learn speech-production skills based on the meaning of what he or she wants to say, which will facilitate carryover of skills outside of the therapy situation.

Executive Function Back to Top
Is your upper elementary-school/middle school-aged child often described as lazy? Disorganized? Unmotivated? Unable to finish a task to completion? He or she may have executive dysfunction (which often goes hand-in-hand with ADHD). Often, these difficulties do not qualify him or her for Special Education services, but clearly the child is not having the academic success he or she enjoyed in earlier grades. Therapy in this area will teach the following: prioritizing and organizing tasks, setting goals, identifying the least distracting learning environment, properly estimating time needed to complete tasks, and other skills.

Word Finding Back to Top
Word-finding skills are used to quickly and accurately retrieve words from your brain during talking or reading. People with word-finding difficulties may often seem to forget a word they want to say and instead describe the word or its function, use a synonym or related word, say, “uh,” “um,” etc, or say the first sound of the target word. This deficit can exist, even in people with good vocabularies. This disorder is often not treated in the school environment yet can make school work difficult.
