We offer Speech and Language Evaluations, Diagnostic Reading Assessments, or Dual Speech/Language and Reading Evaluations
Speech & Language Evaluation
This evaluation of oral language (listening and speaking) probes all areas of language, including:
Phonology/articulation (speech sounds)
Grammar
Morphology (smallest meaningful unit of meaning)
Vocabulary
Discourse (use of language in longer contexts)
Pragmatics (social language)
This evaluation determines if a speech/language disorder exists, describes its severity, and provides treatment recommendations, classroom/environmental accommodations, and testing accommodations.
Diagnostic Reading
A reading evaluation assists in identifying what may be causing difficulties in a student’s mastery of reading, writing, and spelling. The report will answer the question, “Why isn’t my child reading at grade level?” and quantify the student’s reading profile and reading level with supporting and exacting data. The critical components of written language will be assessed:
Word identification
Spelling
Decoding (sounding out words)
Phonological processing (understanding sound use)
Rapid naming
Comprehension
Dual Evaluation
At Boston SLP, we are proud to be one of only a few regional clinics offering dual evaluations of oral (speech/language) and written (reading/writing/spelling) skills. The strong connection between these two components is not to be underestimated.
This comprehensive oral and written language evaluation is considered the gold standard for both the student who evidences an obvious struggle and the student who struggles in school but continually does not qualify for services due more subtle difficulties which have previously been tricky to pinpoint.
